iDempiere enthusiasts share many examples of how iDempiere changed people’s lives for the better. Here we present to you our hero of the month for his contributions during the month of November.

Tony is a relatively new contributor, however, in the last months, he has been very active in the community. In November he contributed various commits to the core to remove bugs, actively reported bugs on JIRA and tested pull requests.

Tell us a little bit about your childhood and where you grew up.

I grew up in Melbourne, Australia. Always had a fascination for everything to do with electronics, amateur radio and computers.

How did you get into programming?

Started programming in my late teens. My first application was a morse code generator, written in assembler on a single board processor kit, complete with hex keypad and mini printer.

How long have you been part of iDempiere?

I have only been involved with iDempiere for a few months, but have always kept a keen eye on the project since its inception.

How and why did you get involved with iDempiere?

After 27 years in the same job, I decided to take some time off full time work. Getting involved with iDempiere was always of interest, but I just didn’t find the time.

What is your experience in other OS projects?

I was involved with ADempiere from its early beginnings and the company I worked for decided to implement ADempiere in 2011. Also had some small involvement with various OS projects, including Mercurial.

Is there something that makes you passionate about open source in general and iDempiere in particular?

I have been an avid user of open source software and really appreciate the many people who put their time and efforts into contributing to the many projects. Even though I am new to iDempiere as a contributor, I have a lot of respect for the way in which the project has been run over the years.

What are some of the things you would like to improve in iDempiere?

I think like many open source projects, developer documentation could be improved. There is a vast amount of information on iDempiere, but I found it difficult sorting out what was still relevant in some areas. Hopefully as I learn more about iDempiere I can contribute in this area as well.

How does it feel to win the November 2021 Hero of the month title?

Took me a little by surprise, but I am really appreciative of the recognition. Glad that I have been able to make some contribution to the project over the last couple of months.
