Matheus Eduardo Marcelino

DevCoffee
Tech Lead
Leme, Brazil

24 years old. Software developer since 2015. Passionate about questioning, solving problems and learning everything possible.

Tell us a little bit about your childhood and where you grew up.

I was born and grew up in Leme, a country town of São Paulo state, with my parents and my younger brother.

How did you get into programming?

At the age of 15, I had to choose between three course options (IT, administration or visual communication) to study with a high school curriculum, so I chose IT and here I am.

How long have you been part of iDempiere?

Since 2016

How and why did you get involved with iDempiere?

When I finished high school, I started to work for a TOTVS system analyst and got involved with the ERP world. I’ve done some projects with him and learned a lot of concepts. I was searching for a new job/project and met Murilo Torquato, who introduced me to iDempiere in 2016.

What is your experience in other OS projects?

I don’t have much experience with other OS projects contributing as a developer, but it’s common in my routine to deal with OS projects as a user. At devCoffee we have a culture to always choose (if possible) an OS solution.

Is there something that makes you passionate about open source in general and iDempiere in particular?

I think the freedom to change things and adapt to our necessities is the deciding factor. Talking about iDempiere, the project and the people involved are in constant evolution and never get outdated.

What does your typical day look like?

Some days of the week I work from home, some I go to the office. I don’t like to have a routine in this sense, only the problems to solve are the routine. In my spare time, I play bass, have singing lessons, run and read some philosophy books.

If you have your customers for whom you implement or customize iDempiere, what are they like and what do they typically want?

We have customers in different segments, but their needs are the same:

  • Quick information
  • Control about their resources
  • Dashboards and indicators
  • Automate processes and tasks, aiming to minimize errors

What are some of the things you would like to improve in iDempiere?

I think the project is in the right direction, since the Lyon conference a lot of things got better, mostly the communication.
It seems everyone is looking in the same direction now and joining efforts.

How does it feel to win the November 2022 Hero of the month title?

It’s an honor for me, not just for the title, but for the recognition and to know the things I’ve done are important and makes some difference to the community.
