Martin is a constant contributor, he is actively giving support to the community in the forums. During March, Martin presented to the community his print-server plug-in and contributed a video explaining the functionality, which helps everyone to manage printers in a simpler way.

Tell us a little bit about your childhood and where you grew up.
Born where Werra and Fulda unite to form the Weser I grew up in Ostwestfalen
How did you get into programming?
While studying for being a teacher I got infected by programming. Programming for a living for over 40 years now
How long have you been part of iDempiere?
Since 2015.
How and why did you get involved with iDempiere?
We evaluated open-source ERP-Systems both to replace a general ledger which couldn’t create SEPA-Transaction and to have a system we could offer to our customers. iDempiere made it due to being supported by an active community.
What is your experience in other OS projects?
Practically none.
Is there something that makes you passionate about open source in general and iDempiere in particular?
Being able to change anything without having to disassemble the code.
What does your typical day look like?
About 30% programming, 40% administration, 30% support.
If you have your customers for whom you implement or customize iDempiere, what are they like and what do they typically want?
They typically want to avoid costs and vendor lock in.
What are some of the things you would like to improve in iDempiere?
Documentation is the area where I’m not fully convinced. 😉

What would you like to say to other community members? Any advice or suggestions?
I’m always surprised how easily it’s customizable.
I am a systems engineer with a great passion for open source, software development, and technology in general. I have been part of the iDempiere community since 2012. I believe the enterprise world is one of the most aggressive environments out there. Companies tend to ruthlessly compete against each other. That is why seeing competitors co-exist and cooperate in harmony in iDempiere (and OSS communities in general) is so interesting to me.
